Welcome to Woobie Bear Music

Hello and welcome to our world of music. I am Greg Hudson, director of Woobie Bear Music. Music has always been a large influence in my life. In school, I was never a front man in anything musical, tho not at all shy, I was voted class clown in my graduating class. I started collecting music on vinyl in Jr. High. ALL music and ALL styles.

Music to me became a way to escape into another world, a world that I could melt into and be free to be me. I hid my sexuality from everyone all thru school and far after until the age of 24.Back in 1988 I decided I had to be me and not who people wanted me to be. I had to find my happiness and deal with who I am once and for all. I was afraid, angry, confused, and lonely. In the 1980s I was the lead SCREAMER for a metal thrash band and our cds were sold in 18 countries. Loud, Fun, Energetic and Long Hair. However times and hair both change.

Grecote' pronounced - Gray-Ko-Tay And that is the name I chose to represent my solo musical compositions. Check out the Grecote' page to hear samples. My song FORUM on Bear Tracks ONE was voted the #1 gay camp pride song for 2004 by the National Stonewall Society. My favorite bands growing up are 1.ELO Electric Light Orchestra. 2. Rush 3 Boston 4.Queen 5.Pink Floyd. I sincerely hope that thru Woobie Bear Music and the many talented Bears represented here, You can find peace and comfort in yourself, or simply take a moment to enter our world and escape from yours. May your journey be filled with Peace, Love and Security.

 Last year I played a gig in New York City over the summer. Afterwards I went to a couple of bear bars on Christopher Street with friends. The bars were a couple blocks away from each other and in between there was a black gay subculture that no one seemed to notice. I asked some of the bears about the hip hop club that was there but no one knew anything about it. I found it sad and interesting that these two gay sub-cultures could co-exist and have no interaction or homogenization going on between them. While we were walking I took notice of a couple of lesbians holding hands. They were all decked out with big hoop earrings, spray painted tees tied under their breasts and tube socks with heels. They were made up and beautiful. I couldn't get them out of my head and on the bus ride home I wrote the song Hip Hop Dykes. The idea of the song is also a throwback to Malcolm McClaren's Buffalo Gals, a rap song about the B Girls movement in the early eighties which was a precursor to modern day hip hop style. I wanted to tell a story with the video about this archetype and show solidarity between gays and lesbians. Of course with me it's always got to have a twist and a sense of humor. I think sometimes that's the best way to get a message across. It definitely worked here.

 Permission was a song I wrote about my feelings on gay marriage. I actually started out being anti marriage but the more I felt that people didn't want it to happen the angrier I got and I eventually changed my mind. Even though the sentiment is serious there are still sardonic and funny moments in the song. When I toured last year performing at various Bear events I would rap in front of a screen with animated images put to the music by my friend Brutus (Bob Cunningham). Bob videotaped me performing it at a couple of the venues and then edited the footage in with the original animations.

Project Big is based in Florida and was created by Mark and Bob, Here is their story as to how Project Big began.....

Mark and Bob have been together for just about 8 years, Mark was in the music business for 25 years and is now a radiologic technologist working at the leading trauma center in Miami.  Bob is a CPA, His own small practice, Bob began working as a CPA in 1974.  Their partners in the venture are Michael and Miguel, who have been together for 15 or so years and who have been in the clothing business for most of those 15 years.  They had a retail store where they sold club clothing to the wilton manors/fort lauderdale crowd and now they have a manufacturing facility in fort lauderdale, selling wholesale all over the country.
Project big began when Bob was going on the Bear Voyage and could not find any cool clothing to wear, either locally or online.  The only swimsuits he could find were big blousy flowery suits.  He couldnt find shirts or shorts other than cheap looking gym type clothes. Bob asked Michael and Miguel to make him some cool clothes for the cruise and that is how the idea for Project Big came to be.  Miguel has worked with Mark and Bob to create patterns that fit larger men, taking into account how our bodies are different from smaller guys.  Their goal is to create cool and comfortable quality clothes for guys who deserve to have a venue to fill their needs, and who too often are ignored.  We have been careful to provide a size chart to help guys know what size will fit them because I know I hated buying a particular size and finding out that the measurements one company used were not the same as other companies.  So, those wondering about our company can know that Project is a company invented and run by us big guys and for us big guys.
